Music by the Bay continues this weekend at the Deep Bay Marine Field Station with The Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra.

This group of musicians includes a mix of experienced professionals, retired professors of music, young music students and  gifted music enthusiasts.

The string orchestra has roughly 25 members and occasionally expands to include wind and percussion.

This Sunday they will perform Strings in the Sun, a summertime trip through classical music including Vivaldi’s Winter, Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Boccherini’s Minuetto.

There will also be some Verdi, Mascagni, and a bit of Joplin, among other favourites.

The concert happens Sunday, Aug. 26. Gates open at 6 p.m. and music runs from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

The concert wraps up a series of performances moved to The Deep Bay Marine Field Station from Milner Gardens and Woodland to highlight the new Vancouver Island University building.

Tickets are $20, $15 for students and members, available at Milner Gardens, Coastal Community Credit Union branches, the Salish Sea Market or at the field station.
