Winners of the Islands Short Fiction Contest were recently announced during a reception at the Nanaimo Harbourfront Library.
Nanaimo’s Tracy Balanik won first place in the adult category for her piece A Clean Slate.
Janet Miller was second and Amanda Hale took third.
For the youth category ages 13-18, Ally Howard of Comox won first for her submission The Burning Oak. Second place was Avery Creed and third place went to Nanaimo’s Stefan van Dusen for The Ramshackle Headsman.
For the junior category, 12 years and under, Nanaimo’s Simone Urie won first for Through the Howl of the Wind. Nanaimo residents also earned second and third: Sara Lewis and Ella Hannesson.
