Singer Natalie MacMaster is excited to return to Sidney to perform with her husband Donnell Leahy and their six children.
“I’m just always amazed at how much I love what I do, because it’s been 33 years and I’m so looking forward to going across Canada and taking my family, my husband and playing shows,” she said in a recent phone interview.
MacMaster and Leahy will be joined by their family for three shows in Sidney, spreading holiday cheer with latest album A Celtic Family Christmas.
MacMaster said it was many things that inspired the album.
“All the people on there were the exact people we had hoped for …” she said, adding they tried really hard to bring together many voices over a five-day period to make the album happen.
MacMaster and her husband had been wanting to put together a Christmas album for years, and they finally put it out with a tour around it too.
“It was just a lovely project and the timing was right and it just all worked out, and I’m 100 per cent pleased with the record,” she said.
Not only does MacMaster love making music, but she loves spending the majority of time with her children, who are also part of the album.
“It’s great. Honestly, I’m one of those people, I would just love to be cocooned forever with my family in a cave.”
And it’s a funny thing having her kids on the road with her, she said.
“It’s a real roller coaster, because getting there can be challenging with just the amount of stuff and dealing with nap times. I have one girl with a severe allergy and we’re schooling as well on the road.”
Two of the shows at the Mary Winspear Centre are sold out. A third was added at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 27. For tickets, call 250-656-0275.
