The Lieutenant Governor of B.C. is compiling a playlist for Canada’s 150th birthday party, and she’s calling on the province’s musicians to create some new material for the occasion.
Musical groups (minimum eight voices) of all ages are being invited by the Honourable Judith Guichon to submit their work for the third season of Sing Me a Song, an initiative to promote community spirit in the province. Those participating are encouraged to write music that relates to the country’s 150th, and what the milestone anniversary means to them personally or to their community.
“The entries we received in the first two seasons were outstanding and showed that community pride is alive and well in British Columbia,” said the Lieutenant Governor. “We are looking forward to continuing the program and showcasing the great musical talent found throughout the province.”
Musicians from around B.C. have been chosen as panelists who will review the submissions. Split between age categories, there will be three prizes of $1,000 every year. Submitted music must be original content less than five minutes in length, and be based on the Canada 150 themes.
