An opening reception takes place Saturday, Feb. 1 for the Abbotsford Arts Council’s latest exhibition.
The reception is held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kariton Art Gallery, 2387 Ware St.
The exhibition, Natural Expressions, runs until Feb. 29, featuring the work of artists Nadia Dodd, Vera Ripley and Netzah Garcia.
The show features a variety of styles, including modern acrylic paintings, detailed oil paintings and photography journalism. The artists present their expressions on their experiences with nature through their various art forms.
Dodd said she creates art to communicate her thoughts and feelings – “to describe my hopes and fears, my dreams and memories.”
“I pour emotion into every piece I create and my hope is that it evokes emotion in you, the viewer,” she says.
Ripley said she is fascinated with strong shapes and unique colours, and she would like viewers “to feel deeply and positively uplifted” when they look at her art.
Garcia, a photographer and storyteller, went on a 30-day tour to photograph the remote regions of British Columbia.
Through his explorations, he had the opportunity to build relationships with the locals within these remote communities.
Also through the Abbotsford Arts Council, applications are now being accepted for a show titled Women in Art.
The exhibit is being held from March 7 to 28 in celebration of International Women’s Month.
Applications are being accepted until Feb. 21 and can be done in person or online at abbotsfordartscouncil.com.
