The Art Gallery of Golden (AGOG) has a new exhibit on display featuring the ceramics of Kalika Bowlby.
The new show Hold Water: The River’s Edge is made with clay from the Kicking Horse and the Blaeberry Rivers. At the opening of the exhibit on September 7, Bowlby gave a guided tour of the pieces in the show and answered questions for everyone who attended.
Bowlby describes her work as handmade contemporary table top ceramics that celebrate “life’s simple pleasures of eating and drinking.”
Her website, www.kalika.ca, and online shop at www.makeanddo.ca, features a complete line of contemporary functional ceramics including cups, mugs, bowls, plates, teapots, and more.
The ceramic designer and studio potter crafts items for every day, from simple meals to grand feasts. She focuses on craftsmanship, functionality, and simplicity, and is based in Golden.
Bowlby studied ceramics at the Alberta College of Art and Design and completed a residency at Red Star Studios in Kansas City, Missouri. She has been doing pottery since 2010, and states on her website that she loves making pottery during quiet early mornings, and has been known to be in the studio late at night as well.
The art gallery is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Anyone wanting to view the exhibit is welcome to drop in and check it out.
