New performing arts troupe weaves a story of intrigue

A new student performance troupe has brought an original theatrical production to life at the Vernon Community Music School.

A new student performance troupe has brought an original theatrical production to life for a number of sold-out shows this week at the Vernon Community Music School’s historic Carriage House Loft.

The Web of Unity was created and is being performed by 14 budding artists, ages seven to 16, with the Carriage House Performance Troupe.

Led by artistic director and former Cirque du Soleil trained artist Rachel Wyatt (née Martens), the troupe is part of a new theatre/music/dance program at the Vernon Community Music School.

“Our 10-month creative process has culminated in this powerful and meaningful story,” said Wyatt. “The wisdom and imagination of each member of our troupe comes to life in the magical world that we have created together.”

The magical story follows a council of inter-dimensional beings who live up in a place called the Moonship. Since the Great Fire three years ago, the Kingdom of Arbor has been in crisis. The river has turned black and the people of the kingdom are suffering.

Luinil, the Great White Spider (played by Anna Konrad), leads the council of inter-dimensional beings down to the Kingdom of Arbor to help solve the mystery of the Great Fire, clean the river and restore the web of unity.

“Each young performing artist created their own character, designed their own costume and worked together with the rest of the ensemble to write the script,” said Wyatt. “I am blown away by the commitment, courage, and strength of spirit that each member of our troupe has demonstrated throughout the entire creative process.  They are becoming mature, inspired artists, able to cooperate and communicate their ideas with soulful power.”

Auditions for The Carriage House Performance Troupe will be held in the final two weeks of June. Contact Wyatt at rachelwyatt100@hotmail.com or call 778-212-9642 for details regarding summer and fall programs.
