New recording studio opens doors to artists

Music is Wayne Veillet’s passion.

He decided to follow that passion and open a recording studio attached to his home to help other musicians record their music.

Veillet opened Wayon Sound last year and is hosting an open house to invite people to view his new business.

Veillet began playing music as a child and, after taking a few years off as a teen, got back into it in his 20s.

He played bass for a handful of cover bands in Nanaimo, participating in and then hosting a weekly jam session since 1993.

After playing in bands, including Littlehead, for decades, he decided to go into business and opened a recording studio attached to his home.

Veillet was unhappy with his job at a welding supply company and was spurred to create the studio after the death of a coworker.

“Life is too short to be doing something you don’t want to be doing,” Veillet said.

He experimented with a four-track recorder, figuring out the technical details of multi-tracking, effects and more. He also has the experience of recording from a musician’s point of view.

The studio includes 660 square feet of space.

People will be able to tour the studio during an open house Saturday (Feb. 19). For more information, please call 250-754-4599.
