There’s something extremely eye-catching about a well-done graphic illustration of nature, but also of a whimsically drawn image of a child’s imaginary monster.
You can find both styles of art and more at the upcoming Island Illustrators Society Winter Gathering and Group Exhibit, running Feb. 13 to 24 at the Coast Collective Gallery in Colwood.
Whether you follow some of the Society’s best-known Vancouver Island and Gulf Island artists, or harbour prospects of a career in writing or illustrating, you’ll enjoy this opportunity to rub shoulders with those in the region’s illustration community.
These individuals usually work in the solitude of their own home studios, and on occasion in outside locations. But once a year they gather to create a themed show and showcase their works.
This year’s featured Society artists include Ilka Bauer, Laura Bonnie, Ruth Bowman, Kristi Bridgeman, Kathy Cameron, Ken Faulks, Diana Grenkow, Karen Watson, Eliska Liska, Jen Burgess and Marcia Semenoff. The group lists both founding members and newer talents, who are presenting in a broad range of mediums, from acrylic and collage to pen and ink, watercolour, glass beadwork and digital art.
The public is invited to an opening reception, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Coast Collective, in Suite 103-318 Wale Rd., in the Holiday Inn Express building.
