The North Island Festival of Performing Arts (NIFPA) will host a fundraising concert with three performers at the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
The event features The East West Duo, Trent Freeman and Shelly Brown, the latter two former NIFPA performers, festival publicist Deidre Knudson said.
The concert is a showcase for the upcoming festival, which draws competitors from across the Island, including from Port Alberni.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $2. Performances will run for about an hour-and-a-half with a brief intermission, during which coffee donated by Mudsharks will be provided.
Freeman and Feely are adjudicators at this year’s festival and Knudson said the opportunity for festival performers to see their adjudicators on the stage is an exciting one.
“It’d be really neat for the performers themselves to actually see their adjudicators get up there and perform and see where they could be in years if they continue with their training and practising,” said Knudson.
A month’s worth of festival competition culminates with a variety showcase on Friday, March 9 and a dance gala on Saturday, March 10 at the Sid Williams Theatre. The showcase is a compendium of pieces.
