Highland dancers from around the North Island recently participated in a workshop sponsored by the Mt. Waddington Highland Dancing Association. Judge and teacher Kelly Abrahart from Edmonton, Alberta, ran the dancers through their compulsory dances and gave them tips on performing their technique. Dancers ranging in age from 4 to over 40 participated. Dancers from the North Island regularly participate in competitions across Vancouver Island, Canada, and the Western United States. In September 2011 the next highland dancing competition on the North Island will be held in Port McNeill.
