Calgary-based author Fred Van Zuiden will be in the Victoria area signing copies of his best-selling book Call Me Mom this weekend.
The story is an unsentimental, fast paced tale of an 11-year-old fending for himself during the Occupation.
In his book Van Zuiden takes the reader to the Battle of Arnhem raging overhead, near misses with the Gestapo, living in a chicken coop, a mad dash across no-man’s land, all while moving between 26 hiding places to stay out of Nazi hands.
He will be at Chapters, 1212 Douglas St., on Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at Smith Books Tillicum, 19-3170 Tillicum Rd. on Sunday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
