The Studio Theatre’s lively production of Office Hours finishing its run this week features a great cast of new and seasoned actors who play a number of roles in the compilation of six one-act plays that make up the production.
Terra McGuire, who plays Francine Majors and Sam Thurber, is new to Williams Lake and to the theatre. Aside from high school drama class and winning a “very amateur” stand-up comedy competition in 2008, she says this is her first real taste of stardom.
Therisa Peimer plays Pam Gerard, Ellie Young, and Sharon Freeman. Peimer is also new to Williams Lake but not new to the stage. She is a classically trained dancer, novice singer, drummer and actress with very little stage work, but has acted in a student movie.
Tony Savile plays Lloyd Penny. Savile has been with the Studio Theatre for about 12 years, working mostly behind the scenes, until his debut in Who’s Life is It, then playing the father in Maggie’s Getting Married two years ago. Once again he is typecast in the role of father.
“It’s great to be playing with some old friends, and really exciting to be on stage with some truly talented newcomers to the Studio Theatre,” Savile says.
Shane Tollefson plays Mark Young and Artie Barnes. Tollefson loved to act as a kid and is well established on the Studio Theatre stage with notable recent performances in On Golden Pond and The Good Game.
Dexter Giesbrecht plays the one-armed man, Gordon Blaine, Richard, and Neil Penny. Giesbrecht was involved with many high school plays including Secondary Moments and Star Light, Star Bright and was honoured to perform in the play I Never Saw Another Butterfly with the Williams Lake Studio Theatre.
Harry Jennings plays Warren Kimble, Bobby Holland, and a man. Jennings is returning to the stage after a five-year break. Nervous, this is a first non-singing role for this talented musician and singer. He has appeared previously in Little Shop of Horrors, Annie, and I Love You, You’re perfect, Now Change.
Merla Monroe plays Rhonda Penny.
This is Monroe’s first production with the Studio Theatre, but she is not new to theatre. She is a community theatre veteran having been a member of the Canyon Creek Players, Golden Players and Kamloops Players. Through the years she has been active both on stage and behind the scenes enjoying roles of director and actor the most. Her most recent role was that of Aida in Over the River and Through the Woods with the Kamloops Players.
Office Hours continues its run tonight, Thursday, Nov. 24, through Friday and Saturday evenings at the Studio Theatre. Tickets are available at About Face Photography.
