The Okanagan Film Festival (OFF) has partnered with www.kickstarter.com to use the growing trend of crowd-funding to re-vamp the Kelowna-based festival.

Donations are now being accepted for OFF, which has non-profit charitable status, on the Kickstarter website.

Festival vice president Adam Scorgie was successful in raising money in his last Kickstarter campaign and now wants to help the local festival get back on its feet.

Scorgie took it upon himself to scout and hire a local film crew to produce the festival’s Kickstarter video, and now that the campaign is running, it’s time to promote the cause, he said.

Those donating to OFF will receive a receipt for a taxable deduction as well as a bonus gift depending on the amount they give.

“The Okanagan is one of the most beautiful places on earth and a location scout’s dream,” said Scorgie. “We have deserts, lakes, lush vineyards, amazing parks, snowy mountains. What more could you want?  So donate now and feel superior in the knowledge you helped create history in the making, and receive a charitable tax receipt at the same time.”

(Tax receipts are  applicable for Canadian residents only.)

The Okanagan Film Festival will take place Sept. 22 to 25 in Kelowna to place it behind the powerhouse Toronto International Fim Festival.

“This will attract some bigger films such as the new Gus Van Sant flick rumoured to potentially air at OFF after it premieres in Toronto,” said Scorgie.
