The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra invites students to write a story for a very special March performance.
School children from kindergarten through Grade 6 are invited to enter the OSO story writing contest. Winners will have their stories brought to life through illustration performed to music by the OSO.
Winners will also be invited to attend the rehearsal for this concert as well as receive four tickets to attend the performance at 2 p.m. on March 7 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
“We are so excited to once again give students the opportunity to share their creativity and showcase these stories as part of our family matinee this season,” said Rosemary Thomson, OSO’s music director. “We had an overwhelming response in 2011 when we held the story writing competition. I love reading the stories and the imagination of these children is incredible, I’m looking forward to reading this years’ submissions.”
All children in kindergarten to Grade 6 residing in the Okanagan are eligible to participate. Judging will be in two categories: K-3 and 4-6. Every story will be read. The OSO is most interested in a child’s original ideas, as they wish to express them.
Handwritten or typed entries are acceptable. Entries may be scanned and e-mailed in PDF format. Entries must be received by Friday, Dec. 12. The jury will consist of Thomson along with school and public librarians. The jury’s decision in all contest matters is final. Only winning entries will be contacted. Please include self-addressed stamped envelope with the entry if you wish to have the original entry returned to you.
