The Okanagan College Red Dot Players invite members of the community to an open audition for their 2014 production of Nikolai Gogol’s hilarious satire, The Government Inspector. The play requires the thespian talents of 13 male and female actors between the ages of 17 and 70 to play a variety of comedic roles.
Auditions will take place on the Kelowna campus of Okanagan College at 1000 KLO Road on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room E202 (Centre for Learning Building); and Monday, Nov. 25, from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in Room S104 (Student Services Building).
“I’m excited to start work on The Government Inspector,” said Okanagan College English professor and Red Dot Players artist director Jeremy Beaulne. “The script is really funny, with some great over-the-top characters, but it also contains an interesting commentary on power and corruption, which is just as relevant now as it was when Gogol wrote the play.”
In the play, corrupt officials in a small Russian town mistake an insignificant clerk for a government inspector sent by the Tsar to spy on them. Anxious to avoid the wrath of the Tsar, the officials flatter and bribe the clerk, who decides to take the officials for all they are worth.
Auditioning actors will be asked to perform selections from The Government Inspector. They will not be required to memorize audition pieces.
Rehearsals will commence in January 2014 and take place three times a week. Performances are scheduled for mid-March 2014.
