This weekend the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra brings a youth choir of nearly 200 youth to the stage to perform with close to 50 instrumentalists.
The versatile and urbane Alan Corbishley will give readings from Dickens, Dylan Thomas, O. Henry and more with music to complement; carols and arias that bring the Christmas Spirit to life.
“Christmas songs come alive with a stage filled with so many people performing together; creating an experience with such an amazing sound combination of vocals and instruments,” says a press release quoting Rosemary Thomson, OSO music director. “It’s such an exciting feeling to be on stage with a choir made up of high school students from throughout the valley including Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon.”
This concert also serves at the inaugural performance of the Okanagan Symphony Youth Chorus and is made up of young singers from throughout the Okanagan Valley.
The chorus will perform with the OSO every few years to give every choral student the opportunity to share the stage with professional musicians, and eventually to be the training ground for the Okanagan Symphony Chorus.
The choir will sing popular carols including Away in a Manger, Silent Night, We Three Kings and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
Christmas Reflections opens Dec. 21 in Penticton, runs Dec. 22 in Kelowna and Dec. 23 in Vernon.
