‘Overwhelming’ response for Art on Main, first artist’s work now on display at Chilliwack hotel

Self-taught painter, Trina Schols, will have artwork in Royal Hotel windows throughout February

The first artist has been chosen and her work is now in the windows of the Royal Hotel in downtown Chilliwack.

Trina Schols’ artwork is on display as part of Art on Main, an exhibition people can view as they walk past the hotel on Main Street.

The response to the call for artists was “overwhelming,” said Laura Reid of the Royal Hotel.

“More than 50 local creators and makers have contacted us with an interest to display their works in the eight windows lining Main Street,” Reid said.

“From acrylic and watercolour paintings, skateboard art, carvings, pencil drawings and weavings, I am amazed at the quality and creativity of Chilliwack artists. It has made the process of choosing artists for Art on Main a more difficult and lengthy process.”

Schols’ work will be on display for the month of February. She is a self-taught painter and discovered her love of art while painting with her young daughter. As an avid gardener, her work often reflects this hobby with roses, sunflowers and peonies often the subject of her paintings.

Art on Main fills the windows along Main Street, but the Royal may add additional display space in the historic hotel as the need is definitely there.

“We are reviewing available spaces in the hotel that may work for local artists. We recognize the diverse talent in our community and want to continue supporting local artists. Art adds vibrancy to our hotel and to the downtown,” Reid said.
