Pair of folksingers to play Barley Station

B.C. singer-songwriter Lydia Hol will bring her airy, story-focused folk music to the Barley Station Brew pub on April 7. Australian singer Larissa Tandy will be joining her.

Hol’s music is soft and gentle, but tells compelling stories and carries a Celtic rhythm.

She was a top-20 finisher in the Peak Performance Project, a contest for emerging musicians run by 102.7 FM The Peak, in 2013. Hol was also a regional finalist in CBC’s Searchlight Contest.

She is touring the B.C. Interior fresh from the release of her debut LP Heading North, which was released in January. Stand out tracks from the CD include Ammunition and Long Road.

In Mistress of the Track, the album’s closing song, Hol tells the tragic tale of Canadian jockey Ron Turcotte over haunting acoustic guitars and recorded radio broadcasts of his races.

Although she recorded Heading North with a nine-piece band, the focus of each track is Hol’s voice and the stories she is telling.

Tandy has been described as one of Australia’s top-10 emerging songwriters and her sound blends southern rock, gospel and ’90s alternative.

Her most recent single, Shut Down, received radio play in the U.S., UK and Australia.

Her yet-to-be named album is due for release in mid-2016.
