Parliament of Owls to return to Agassiz concert series for second year

The concert will be the third time Agassiz-raised Andrew Christopher is playing in the park

Andrew Christopher is coming home to share his music for the third time at the Twilight Concert Series.

Christopher, raised in Agassiz but now living in White Rock, will be playing with his band Parliament of Owls at the Aug. 15 concert in Pioneer Park. The band had played in Agassiz for the concert series last year, and Christopher had come as a solo artist the year before.

“It was a great turn-out last year,” Christopher said. “A lot of old familiar faces showed up, so it was nice to see all them.”

Christopher and his band mate Jamie Rowe had been busy since their last concert a year ago: the pair had been recording songs throughout the year and finally released their first album on Canada Day of this year.

“We both work full time, running our own businesses … so it took quite a while to get the album done,” he said. “It was quite a process, so it’s even sweeter now that it’s finished.”

The album release is a major accomplishment for Christopher, whose last album release was from his time as a solo artist six years ago. The album was recorded in Chilliwack at the home studio of a friend, and copies will be available at the Twilight concert.

“We both are super happy with it,” he said. “I’m usually pretty critical of myself for anything I put out there. But I’m still really enjoying listening to it, once in a while, when I’m driving.

“I’m just really happy with how the songs came together, and the actual recordings of it.”

Parliament of Owls will be playing songs from their new album on Thursday, Aug. 15 in Pioneer Park, as well as covers of popular songs and new tunes the pair has been working on since the release.

The free concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. , and visitors are invited to bring their lawn chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the music.

“It always feels really good” to come back, Christopher said. “There’s not a ton of live music that goes on in Agassiz itself, so I always really like getting out there to play.”

“It always feels very nostalgic to come back there where I grew up.”
