The Pearl Ellis Gallery is hosting a new show from Aug. 28 to Sept. 9 for Althea White and Brenda Chalifoux-Luscombe.
This will be the second major show at the Pearl Ellis combining these two artists, as they usually show their work individually in various locations on Vancouver Island.
This is a mixed media show in which Althea explores subjects in fabric and in watercolour, whilst Brenda examines the art of wood burning (pyrography) on either gourds or paper.
Each artist has individual areas of interest that form the basis of their inspirations. Brenda delves into the world of fantasy and fairy tales whilst Althea takes a more realistic approach to a subject.
They both examine many aspects of nature and landscapes and place these studies again in either a realistic or fantasy settings, often in complementary ways.
New areas of work are continually being explored: Brenda has a number of new drawings, experiments with wire structures and stiffening products that combine fantasy with realism in their portrayal; Althea has been exploring botanical art and constructing the subjects in 3D using a variety of fabrics, embellishments and structures.
To provide more detail about each of the individual pieces of art, both artists have a storybook accompanying their respective works.
The Pearl Ellis Gallery will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to everyone.
The reception for the show will be Sept. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. Throughout the show, the artists will be available to ask any questions. The Gallery can be found at 1729 Comox Ave. in Comox.
