Penticton street dance returns to celebrate community

Celebrate triathletes, their families and the community of Penticton at the Royal LePage Street Dance Friday night.

It has become an annual summer family event to celebrate triathletes, their families and the community of Penticton at the Royal LePage Street Dance which returns Friday night.

From 6 to 10 p.m. the 200 and 300 blocks of Main Street will be surging with energy, music and activities. Live music, buskers, street performers, children’s activities, food and shopping vendors will fill the downtown core.

Fluxx will be taking the stage in the 200 block to kick things off from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by the Get Bent Belly Dancers who will show off their skills between band performances and then the Steve Jones Band at 8 p.m.

In Nanaimo Square, local favourite DJ Shakes will be spinning tunes all night long, with the help of Sick Sense and the Jedi Dance Troupe to get everyone on their feet and dancing up a storm.

As you wander the 300 block of Main Street, be on the lookout for busker Matt Dufus and friends providing street entertainment, and the blazing guitar stylings of Kirk Dixon outside Fresh Café, and the Bahiti Belly Dancers in front of the Main Stage at 7:30 p.m. The stage at the corner of Main and Wade Streets will feature Heart Attak at 6 p.m., then Flashback takes the stage at 8 p.m.

There are plenty of things for the kids to enjoy thanks to Par-t-Perfect, including bouncy castles, climbing walls, giant board games, face-painting and craft stations. As part of this great tradition, you’ll see chalk art along the streets as families leave messages for their athletes to see as they near the finish line.

Challenge Penticton will be providing the opportunity for a virtual bike race. Match your cycling skills to various notable athletes.
