The Canadian, Berlin-based duo of Mark Bérubé and Kristina Koropecki, AKAthe Kliffs, are coming to Penticton’s Dream Café.

Their album, Temporary Cures, is set to be released Nov. 29 and the video of the first single, Outside of Cool V2, was recently issued.

The pair met 12 years ago in an improvised Montréal rehearsal space when Koropecki joined Bérubé’s solo project. They toured together with his band numerous times across Canada and Europe, and eventually re-located to Berlin, Germany, in 2014.

After a brief hiatus for other projects, the two teamed up again in 2018 as a duo under the name Kliffs. Temporary Cures is the first, full-length album under their new name

Bérubé plays the guitar, keys and does voice while Koropecki supplies the cello, synths and voice as well.

The Kliffs are said to do: “Recycled tone poems for the perpetually bemused, and pop songs for shy dancers. They channel the quiet of early morning sun rays tickling cloud banks and mix it up with songs better suited to late-night, inner-city bicycle rides.”

Speaking in a news release on the video Outside of Cool V2 Bérubé said: “We hung a white sheet over a metal pole, bought some beer, charged up our two iPhones, and asked Marlène Colle (of Yippie Yeah) to show us some dance moves, and then started recording. This is what came out, pure low-fi vibes from Berlin.”

The album was recorded between 2016 and 2018 in Montreal at Breakglass Studios and in Berlin at Vox Ton Studios by their long-time collaborator Tonio Morin-Vargas.

After Penticton they will be off to the coast for gigs in Vancouver and Victoria.

Tickets for the Penticton show are available in person at the Dream Café or online at https://thedreamcafe.ca
