The Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra is back and ready to bring some warmth into your heart with the next concert of its spring season in Victoria this weekend.
It is the 11th annual Don Chrysler Concerto Competition for Young Musicians coming up Saturday (April 23) at 7 p.m. in the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall at the University of Victoria.
Six finalists will perform, all of whom are showcased as some of Victoria region’s most talented young musicians. Each participant will perform his or her complete concerto accompanied by piano. Audience members will then each receive an Audience Choice ballot to vote for their favourite performers.
“We hope to get out as big an audience as possible to encourage these young musicians,” said Sharon Johnson, administrative assistant with the Sooke Philharmonic.
Finalists are Tovin Allera, violin; Kevin Chen, violin; Aimi Howden, piano; Iris Hung, piano; Jaling Kersen, viola; and Emma Reader-Lee, violin.
The winner of the competition will perform their concerto with the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra at the celebration of Young Artists concerts in October.
Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
