Pied Pumkids, the family show produced by the multi-talented trio Pied Pumkin, rolls into Fraser River Heritage Park on Wednesday, July 25 from 7-8 p.m.
The Pumkin, comprised of Joe Mock, Shari Ulrich and Rick Scott, usually tours once a year as all three enjoy extensive solo success. Mock lives in France and has been performing in Europe, while Ulrich, who has won two Junos and a John Lennon Songwriting Award, gives concerts and song workshops, produces the Bluebird North songwriter series, and tours solo and with the Highbar Gang and several trios. Scott has created seven CDs for children, three of which have been nominated for Juno Awards. He has won numerous awards from parenting organizations for his work.
In 2008, Pied Pumkin released “Pumkids” – a CD featuring 12 tuneful tales for all ages. They performed the Pumkids family show at Canadian children’s festivals and community halls. The Pumkids show you will see on July 25 combines songs from the CD and Rick Scott’s award winning children’s repertoire, performed Pumkin style.
Pumkids won Best Children’s Album at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, Outstanding Children’s Release in the Western Canadian Music Awards and Parents’ Choice and North American Parenting Publications (NAPPA) Honors in the U.S.
This show comprised of folk, novelty, and folk-rock songs features beautiful harmonies and bouncy, toe-tapping melodies, including two sung in French. The trio plays masterfully on a range of instruments, and their vocals blend beautifully. “Annabelle’s Fiddle” tells about a young girl who practiced a great deal to learn to play the fiddle. “Bowen Island” is a beautiful tune reminiscent of a Gordon Lightfoot song. “Sebastaphone” cooks chapattis for everyone.
The concert partner for this evening is Communitas Supportive Care. The Art in the Park program continues with a variety of visual artists presenting their work each evening of Twilight.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket for a fun evening at the park. The Blackberry Kitchen and The Log Cabin Café are open. Envision Twilight Concerts are a community, free-by-donation series. For more information call 604-826-0277.
