Spring is here and so is the art season.

Ashpa Naira Gallery, located on the North Westside Road area of Vernon, has opened its doors for its seventh season with a spring group exhibition.

“Our first exhibition features the artwork of the newest artists to be in the gallery,” said Ashpa Naira owner and artist  Carolina Sanchez de Bustamante.

Mexico-born artist Lorena Krause, who now lives in Langley, is showing her mainly abstract/mixed media in her series, GoPoPs, an acronym for glass on painting on paper.

Work from the series was shown at the Vernon Public Art Gallery earlier this year.

GoPoPs was born from the fascination I developed for the delicate organic stains that can be created on paper when water touches ink,” said Krause. “A personal challenge began to create different, odd or uncommon shapes in simplicity, focusing mainly on the placement of colour, dabs and glass.”

Also joining the exhibition is Vernon-born, Lake Country-based artist Katie Brennan, with her poetic description of the most familiar phenomenon, the sky, while Vernon’s Kevin Spetifore, who is deeply moved by the power of colour, line and texture, will show his drawings.

Other artists participating in the exhibition include Angelika Jaeger, Lori Mairs, Vikki Drummond, Annemarie Fux, Deborah Wilson, Martha Moore, Leonhard Epp, Jessica Klein, Robert Bigelow, Barry Rafuse and Sanchez de Bustamante, among others.

They will be showing work in a variety of media: painting, textile, sculpture, ceramic, glass and jewelry.

The exhibition runs to June 30.

Ashpa Naira Gallery is located at 9492 Houghton Rd. in the Killiney area on the westside of Okanagan Lake. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.ashpanairagallery.com.
