ORIGINAL STORY:
This year’s MNET Radio Music Festival 18 will be a two-day music extravaganza.
The free all-ages event runs Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Centennial Park. The festival features a new stage and production.
The music on Friday evening begins with Dear Father followed by the hip hop rock group Mollys Reech, then the southern rock sounds of the Tequila Cowboys, who open for the Johnny McCuaig Band.
The Johnny McCuaig Band is one of Canada’s premier independent touring acts. They are breaking the scene everywhere they go, including Las Vegas.
Their song Here We Go is also the current Saskatchewan Roughriders’ intro song. Don’t be surprised when you see Johnny in a kilt and playing the bag pipes in several of their songs.
Saturday night’s lineup starts with the rockin’ blues sound of the Molten Blues Band, which was named Blues Group of the Year in the 2017 Fraser Valley Music Awards and is becoming one of the most prominent blues acts in B.C.
Next on stage is the former Saints and Poets frontman Marshall Potts, whose latest album release is breaking the scene in the U.K., Ireland and Canada.
Closing the night is Mission’s hardest working band KicknRox, who open for Smokin’ Mary, also of Mission, who return to the stage after many years.
Food on both nights will be provided by the Elks Lodge, as well as treats from the Candy Shack. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair and blanket.
Meanwhile, MNET Radio presents Thunderfest on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at 35225 Dale Rd., featuring Without Mercy, Mendozza, Burning Bodhi, Medevil, Widow’s Peak, Damn the Devie and Knocking at the Gates.
Minors are not permitted. Tickets are $25 and are available at Olde News Vintage and Vinyl in Mission and Free Wheeling Records Temple Music Academy in Abbotsford.
