Nanaimo couple will share information about E.J. Hughes tonight.

Residents of Nanaimo will have the opportunity to learn about one of Canada’s most respected painters who called the Harbour City home for decades.

Tonight (May 14) Mike and Marie Egan will be giving a presentation about E.J. Hughes at the Bowen Park activity centre at 7 p.m.

“They will learn about his life and his association with Nanaimo,” Mike said. “We will take them through that historical record.”

“We’re going to show some of the art and talk about his stylized realism and his approach to painting,” Marie added.

The Egans are both well-qualified to speak about Hughes.

Marie worked as a docent at Vancouver Art Gallery and is currently a docent at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, while Mike has experience with audio-visual presentations with the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Tonight’s free event is organized by the Nanaimo Historical Society. For more information, please visit http://bit.ly/1zZdUI1.arts@nanaimobulletin.comFollow @npescod on Twitter
