Proteus Saxophone quartet plays at St. Mary’s Church

Concert is part of Oak Bay Music Society’s “New Music and Beyond” series

St. Mary the Virgin hosts the Proteus Saxophone Quartet this Thursday, Oct. 1 for a concert of new music.

Formed in Paris in 2011, the quartet has performed in France, Canada and the U.S.

Proteus strives to promote and expand Canadian saxophone repertoire, playing a wide range of music written for saxophone quartet, from new works commissioned for them, such as Robert Lemay’s Urban Influx, to contemporary pieces, to arrangements of Classical, Neo-Classical and Baroque pieces, to tangos, rags, and even Radiohead.

For Thursday’s concert the audience will enjoy works by University of Victoria composition professor John Celona, composer Justin Boechler, renowned Canadian composer Robert Lemay, Paris composer Karol Beffa and an arrangement by Antonin Dvorak.
