The funny, sophisticated comedy Maggie’s Plan is the next film being presented by the Okanagan Screen Arts Society.
Maggie’s Plan is the story of a young woman (Greta Gerwig – Frances Ha), who has accepted the fact that with no prospective man in her life, she will probably always be single.
Maggie would love to have a child and feels her last hope will have to be a sperm donor.
At the last minute, Maggie has a chance encounter with John (Ethan Hawke – Sunset trilogy).
John is a married man with two children, who sweeps Maggie off her feet with his wit and sophisticated views on the meaning of life.
John’s wife (Julianne Moore) is a chilly and intimidating eccentric Danish academic and a dominating force in John’s life.
John falls in love with Maggie, leaves his wife and begins a new life with his new wife.
Turn the clock forward a couple of years: John and Maggie have a little girl, a nice apartment and life should be good, but Maggie has come to the realization that John is nothing more than a self-indulgent bore.
In conversation with her best friend she comes up with a plan: What if she could give John back to his ex-wife?
The trick is how to convince John’s ex-wife to take him off her hands.
Directed by Rebecca Miller, Maggie’s Plan has been compared to the quirky character studies of fellow New York City auteur Woody Allen in his heyday.
The film screens at the Vernon Towne Cinema Monday, July 18 at 5:15 ad 7:45 p.m. Advance tickets are available at The Bean Scene and the Towne Cinema box office.
