The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford is celebrating Canada’s 150th year of confederation with a series of public events that address concepts of decolonization and reconciliation.

The first event, Brunch with the Artists, takes place on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Join Fraser Valley artists Carrielynn Victor, David Campion and Sandra Shields and members of the Sq’ewlets community for a brunch, chat and tour of their exhibitions.

Seating is limited and tickets are available by pre-registration only at thereach.ca. The cost is $15 for Reach Friends and $20 for guests.

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) theatre department has partnered with artists David Campion and Sandra Shields and the Stó:lō Research and Resource Management Center to develop Grand Theft Terra Firma: Stories of (Re)Conciliation.

Performances will take place at The Reach from April 6 to 8  at 7:30 p.m. and April 9 at 2 p.m.

The dramatic work is devised by upper year UFV student Phay Gagnon and explores challenging questions about the ongoing legacies of colonization in Canada.

Ticket information will be available soon at the UFV Theater box office website: ufv.ca/plays/shows.

On Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m., join artists Campion and Shields and curator Laura Schneider for an Exhibition Tour and Discussion on Grand Theft Terra Firma: Reconciliation and Settler Responsibility.

This comprehensive free tour includes a discussion about the role of non-indigenous Canadians in decolonization and reconciliation. The public is welcome to engage in an important conversation on the role that we can all play in repairing the relationship between Indigenous and non-indigenous populations.
