The Chilliwack Cultural Centre is thinking globally and acting locally by celebrating International Women’s Day with I Am Women! Hear Me Laff! on Tuesday, March 8 at 8:00pm. Vancouver-based comedian, Erica Sigurdson, will be leading the pack of award-winning comics, including Ardell Fitzpatrick, Rachel Burns, and Marlie Oden, all part of the evening’s side-splitting laff-ter, sure to make I Am Women! the stand-up comedy event of the year.
The Cultural Centre’s first annual celebration of International Women’s Day is just one of thousands of events held around the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. I Am Women! is also produced throughout BC and has a renowned reputation for being wildly successful and selling out fast. Secure your tickets today by calling the Centre Box Office at 604.391.SHOW.
Headliner, Erica Sigurdson, will definitely be one of the reasons tickets fly out of the box office. Since entering the stand-up scene in the summer of 2000, Sigurdson has been unstoppable. Her charm, wit, and hilarious stand-up comedy have won her fans across North America, as well as the respect of her peers and interest from the industry. Sigurdson’s act is chock-full of relatable yet hilarious topics, from men’s absurd obsession with the Canucks to facing the truth: children really aren’t the “miracles” they are said to be.
Sigurdson has been to every comedy festival this country has to offer, appeared as a super regular on CBC’s The Debaters, performed for Canadian troops in Afghanistan, co-hosted a daily talk show, and is seemingly always involved with donating her comedy skills to various charities.
March 8th ticket holders will also be treated to an extra punch of Canada’s finest comedy with Ardell Fitzpatrick as the featured comic for the night, and you can be sure she will bring her fast-paced, pull-no-punches comedy to the stage. Fitzparick is the founder of the famed The Laff Riot Girls: Western Canada’s longest running independent stand-up comedy show, and recent winner of the 2010 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award (Arts & Culture).
Creating an absolute A-Team, Rachel Burns is set to be the night’s opener and is
known to be insanely entertaining, earning the coveted Vancouver title, “funniest-comic-with-a-day-job”. Her awkwardly endearing, brainy style has audiences begging for mercy as she carries on with her nerdy ways.
Not as nerdy but definitely just as hilarious, is Marlie Oden as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Oden tickles funny bones regularly when performing with The Laff Riot Girls, and specializes in comedy based on her two children and loving husband.
It will be an evening of laughter with the promise to have you rolling in the aisles alongside your girlfriends. Get your tickets early before the show is sold out by
calling the Centre Box Office at 604.391.SHOW(7469) or visit the friendly agents Monday-Friday 9:30am-9:00pm, Saturday & Sunday 9:30am-5:00pm. Tickets are also available online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca.
