The winter season for the five-film Reel on the River series concludes Monday evening with the critically acclaimed Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep at the SilverCity Junction.
Although the film has received mixed reviews from critics, Streep’s performance earned her the prestigious Best Actress title at the 84th Academy Awards for her portrayal of the United Kingdom’s conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
The film begins in 2008 with Thatcher living out of the limelight, a widowed woman living out her old age in relative obscurity.
But it soon flashes back to her childhood, and documents her rise to becoming one of the world’s most powerful and influential leaders.
Ever a controversial historical figure for her conservative policies in a country historically known for labour, she is nevertheless an inspirational and fascinating personality.
Iron Lady plays March 26 at 7 p.m. at SilverCity. Tickets are $10.
