Penticton students of music, dance and speech arts are busy preparing for the 91st annual Penticton Kiwanis Music Festival taking place from March 6 to May 3.
The Kiwanis Music Festival is an opportunity for young performing artists to demonstrate their achievements in music, dance and speech arts to their peers and to the community.
Participants have their performances professionally evaluated in a constructive and positive manner.
Last year, competitors came from Penticton, Summerland, Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops, Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos and Cawston.
Registration opened online Dec. 1 at www.pkmf.org. The website contains further information for registration and festival information.
Registration closes Jan. 23, 2017 at midnight.
The following schedule has been set:
• Classical voice and choral: March 6 and 7 at Penticton United Church.
• Junior piano: March 8, 9 and 10 at St. Saviour’s Church.
• Senior piano: March 11, 12 and 13 at St. Saviour’s Church.
• Musical theatre: April 9, 10 and 11 at Penticton United Church.
• Speech arts: April 12 and 13 at Penticton United Church
• Instrumental/strings/classical Guitar: April 19 and 20 at St. Saviour’s Church
• Dance: April 25 to May 3 at the Cleland Community Theatre
Two final concerts will be held at the Cleland Theatre: music highlights on May 5 and dance highlights on May 6.
Solo winners of the coming Penticton Festival will continue on to the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival which is being held in Kamloops May 28 to June 1. Winning students from Penticton Kiwanis Music Festival will be chosen to attend the provincials and take part in adjudicated competitions, master classes, workshops and concerts.
