Release your inhibitions with a stint on the stage

Sicamous Amateur Drama Club is presenting their first Christmas comedy, A Christmas Comedy Replay, written and directed by Carla Krens.

It occurred to me, by watching my grandsons play, that each and every one of us can act as long as we don’t care what others think.

If you ask a group of small children to act something out, they do it wholeheartedly, without any inhibitions.  The older the kids get, the more conscious they become of themselves and, by the time they are teenagers, it is very difficult for them to not care about their peers and to act as if they were still toddlers.

Now when we talk about adults, it really becomes difficult to get people to act in front of others. It is the feeling of embarrassment that stops them. And what a lot of fun they are missing. Just ask any one of the actors in the Sicamous Amateur Drama Club.

Eight years ago when the club was formed, people came forward (or were dragged forward) to say they would give it a try. And now, 11 plays and four Remembrance Day shows later, they all go on stage as pros. They have fun, struggle with their lines, have a lot of laughs during rehearsals and feel a great sense of accomplishment after the play.

Most of the people in the drama club had never acted before and look at them now; they have steadily improved over the years. And it goes to show that even as an adult, everyone can still get on stage and take part and have fun. So if you have ever thought about joining the group, come see the club’s new play and talk to anyone involved in the production. Maybe next time you can be part of it too. Now about the new play.

The play is about a drama group not quite prepared for their final production. It all gets very complicated with family members seeing each other again for the first time in 40 years. There is a lot of confusion and hard feelings still to be resolved. Come and see for yourself and share in the mayhem that the actors create, either as themselves or as their characters.
