Rick Mercer comes to Abbotsford to Rant and Raise

Event raises funds for child development centre and Matthew's House

CBC television’s Rick Mercer is coming to Tradex in Abbotsford on Thursday, June 22 for an event that will benefit the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre (FVCDC) and Matthew’s House.

Rant and Raise with Rick Mercer will be an opportunity to hear this popular television personality share his experiences from across Canada.

Mercer talks to Canadian newsmakers with refreshing candor and is uniquely able to spin topical hilarity from the people and the things that are deeply embedded in the national consciousness.

He will share stories and images from his travels across Canada.

Mercer, born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, is without a doubt one of this country’s most highly respected writers and actors.

His knack for political and social satire has earned him more than 25 Gemini Awards for his top-rated CBC series The Rick Mercer Report, Made in Canada and This Hour has 22 Minutes.

His CBC special Rick Mercer’s Talking to Americans attracted 2.7 million viewers across Canada, making it the highest rated comedy special in the history of Canadian television.

He is a number one Globe and Mail national bestselling author. His books include Streeters, Rick Mercer Report: The Book, and A Nation Worth Ranting About.

Today, The Rick Mercer Report is CBC Television’s number-one-rated comedy show.

As its host, Mercer understands what amuses, delights, and occasionally enrages Canadians about our politicians, our media, and our neighbour to the south.

He has made his mark on Canadian culture and helped to define what it means to be Canadian.

In 2014, Mercer was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and has been inducted into the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame.

He has also received the King Clancy Award from the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons and the Rick Hansen Award of Excellence.

Along with Mercer’s presentation, guests will enjoy a wine and appetizer reception. Contemporary artist Linda Klippenstein will create an art piece on site that will be sold by silent auction.

VIP ticket holders and high-level sponsors will have the opportunity to take part in a meet-and-greet with Mercer after the show.

The public will also have a chance to win one of five other raffle prizes, including two tickets to anywhere that WestJet flies and four other getaway packages. Raffle tickets are $20 and will be available at the event.
