Rifflandia Music Festival released the names of 40 artists who will be appearing at the festival this summer, but are holding on to the other 100.
Among the groups announced are headliners Death Cab for Cutie, an alternative rock band from Bellingham, Wash., and Vancouver-based power-pop group The New Pornographers.
Other big names on the bill: Airborne Toxic Event, known for recent singles “Changing” and “Hell and Back”; Toronto DJs Zed’s Dead; Montreal indie-rockers Half Moon Run; Australian hip-hop duo Hilltop Hoods; and Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore.
Local acts this year include: experimental solo act Hrdvsion (pronounced “hard vision”), returning after a set at last year’s festival; folk/reggae duo Jon and Roy, who are making their first appearance at Rifflandia since 2010; and pop-folk duo Zerbin.
The remaining lineup will be announced before the festival, which takes place on Sept. 11 to 14 at Royal Athletic Park. The rest of the partial lineup can be seen on the Rifflandia website. Tickets are available at Ditch Records, Lyle’s Place, the Royal McPherson Box Office, and online.
