The heat is on, and Fraser River Heritage Park is the place to be in the evening. There is always a breeze, a spectacular view and ice cream ready to be served.
The Envision Financial Twilight Concert series enters the month of August with Roads Unknown tonight (Friday, Aug. 4) at 7 p.m.
Local singer-songwriters Jennie Bice, Tony O’Hara, and Michael Jantzen are accompanied by Solomon Janzen to form a blend of country, blues, and folk.
Individually these local musicians have garnered an enthusiastic and faithful collection of fans.
Together as Roads Unknown these musicians draw audiences in with their thoughtful lyrics, sublime harmonies and infectious rhythm. With stick-in-your-head melodies and a playful stage presence, they create an unfogettable musical experience.
On Wednesday, Aug. 9, John Gogo makes the trip across the Georgia Straight to make his debut at the concert series.
The Gogos are a well-known Nanaimo musical family. David Gogo, has achieved national prominence and has performed at the park several times, Marie Gogo, a Toronto-based singer, and Paul Gogo, who plays keyboards for the rock band Trooper.
The Gogos have a long ancestry in Nanaimo as miners and loggers. And John Gogo’s prolific song writing reflects the history of Vancouver Island – the mining, logging and colourful characters. The folk/roots songs are well crafted, benefiting from clever musical arrangements and Gogo’s relaxed vocal style.
He is also a member of the popular Vancouver Island theatre company ‘The Other Guys” known for their inspiring productions that bring the history of the Island to the stage with original music.
The concerts take place rain or shine and the Special Olympics team will be on site to assist with parking as they have been proudly doing for more than 20 years.
The Envision Twilight concerts are free and everyone is welcome.
