Nelsonite Robert Kwan has achieved great success as an organist and scholar across the world, and on August 6 he will be back performing where it all got started, in a recital at the Nelson United Church.
Kwan began pipe organ studies in 1993 with Christopher Symmons, who was the organist of Fairview United Church. Robert assumed that role from 1994 until 1996. He graduated from LVR in 1995, and received an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto Diploma in Piano Teaching in 1996 under the tutelage of Anne Macdonald.
Kwan received a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria in 2000. He was then the Organ Scholar at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle before moving to the United States for graduate studies in 2001. He earned a degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in 2008 and in August, 2013 was appointed Director of Music/Organist at Trinity Episcopal Church, Southport, Connecticut.
This will be a memorable summer recital for all ages enjoyed in air conditioned comfort at Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street, 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6.
