A fundraising event called Rockin’ Abby Strong takes place Friday, Feb. 2 and raises money for three charities.
The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at Yale Secondary (34620 Old Yale Rd.).
It features live music with Richard Tichelman and his band.
Tichelman was the 2015 Abbotsford Idol winner and is now writing and recording in Los Angeles.
Other performers are Caitlin Canning, The Authorities, Jada Klein and Jordan Hlady.
Proceeds go to the Const. John Davidson “Shine On” legacy fund, the Run for Water for Letisha’s Well in Ethiopia, and the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
The event has been organized by Grade 12 Yale Secondary student Aidan Schweinbenz, who himself has a hearing loss.
Schweinbenz is on the honour role, is heavily involved in leadership at his school, and mentors other hard-of-hearing students.
He attended the nation-wide leadership convention in New Brunswick in Grade 11, and came back inspired to empower others around the community.
What started as a discussion about a coffee-house event has grown into a full concert.
Rockin’ Abby Strong also includes a silent auction, a raffle table and a concession with food from venues around Abbotsford.
Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults. They are available at local high schools, at VRC Fitness and online at rockinabbystrong.com
