Romancing the Desert returns with a new look

It would be hard to improve on the setting for the Osoyoos Desert Society’s annual fundraiser, Romancing the Desert.

But in addition to a one-of-a-kind desert setting, a beautiful full moon and great food and wine, the society is upping the ante on  this year’s event with a Fire and Dice theme, with related entertainment and activities throughout the evening.

“The new elements are designed to keep the event fresh for our returning supporters and make sure Romancing the Desert continues to be a really unique event for the community,” said Denise Eastlick, executive director of the society.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. on Aug. 13 with appetizers and wine tasting. Guests will then be invited to stroll the Desert Centre’s 1.5 km boardwalk to take in the desert’s beauty and enjoy more culinary treats. Savoury appetizers and wine tasting stations will be located along the way, as well as an all-new, interactive boardwalk experience.

Once back at the main plaza, the evening’s multi-course dinner will continue with gourmet barbecue selections, side dishes, desserts and beverages.

Rounding out the event will be some specially-themed entertainment and a re-styled auction featuring unique prizes.

More than a dozen local restaurants and wineries will be on hand, generously donating their products and time to provide guests with a one-of-a-kind experience and to support a worthy cause.

Romancing the Desert is the society’s major fundraiser and proceeds from the event support their habitat conservation efforts. Through education, the society’s mission is to generate public knowledge, respect and active concern for fragile and endangered habitats.

Tickets are available for $65 and must be purchased in advance. To reserve a space, e-mail mail@desert.org or call 250-495-2470 (1-877-899-0897 toll free).
