The Fraser Valley Symphony begins its 33rd season with Romantic Treasures, a delightful fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 20.
This all-orchestra concert will feature music by German composer Johannes Brahms and Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, two giants of the 19th Century Romantic period.
Grieg’s music will begin the concert with a suite of four dances conveying the charm and vitality of Norwegian folk tunes. The dances, based on melodies that come from the Hallingdal region of Norway, were originally composed for piano duet and orchestrated later by Hans Sitt.
Rounding out the program will be the lush Symphony No. 2 in D Major by Brahms, who composed this work on summer holiday in an Austrian village. With its cheery mood evoking image of idyllic landscapes, it is often compared with Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, No. 6.
The concert is being held at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Show begins at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students and $5 for children 12 and under.
