Horsefly’s Pharis and Jason Romero picked up two awards Saturday night at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in Calgary.
The JUNO Award-winning folk and bluegrass duo captured Traditional Singer of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year honours at the annual awards show for their latest album, Sweet Old Religion, which was recorded in Horsefly.
They were also nominated for Ensemble of the Year.
It was the 14th anniversary of the celebration, which featured two nights of award presentations.
The Canadian Folk Music Awards describes the Romeros’ homegrown sound as “their voices, guitars and banjos move as one, leading the listener through a wooded landscape of original and early music. Old songs, rural life and archaic banjo tunings are the undercurrents, the desires for love, connection and community flow in the music and stories of life in their tiny town of Horsefly, B.C.”

The Romeros have travelled Canada, the U.S. and Europe on tour, while playing at concert halls and festivals.
Sweet Old Religion is the couple’s fourth release as a duo.
