Shuswap Rotary Club held its first monthly draw for its Pennies From Heaven campaign last week.
Pennies from Heaven is a fundraiser to support the installation of a universally accessible playground for Blackburn Park and to continue Shuswap Rotary’s efforts towards the purchase of a gamma probe, a cancer detection device for breast cancer and melanoma.
This device will be purchased for Shuswap Lake Hospital to reduce the need for patients to travel to larger centres for applicable surgeries.
“Pennies” can be purchased at participating businesses for the nominal cost of one toonie. They are currently available at Tarnows, Cool Running, Sportsman Barber, Pink Cherry, Chamber of Commerce, Gondwana, Fletcher Park Senior Resource Center, Dr. Tymkiw’s Dental Office, Canoe Store, Master Locksmith, Granite Creek, Buckerfields, Liberty Tax, Shoes and Such, Wickett’s business, Salmon Arm Secondary, Nico’s and Shuswap Clothing.
Coins will also be available at the farmer’s market when it opens and at special booths set up at events around town. You may also purchase coins from Shuswap Rotary members until the closing day of the Salmon Arm Fall Fair. At that time, club members expect to be dropping all the sold coins from a hot air balloon onto a large target. The closest coin to the center will win a cash jackpot. There will be five more monthly, earlybird draws of $50 and grand prizes of $2,000, $1,000, and $500.
Shuswap Rotary is delighted with the support of the chamber of commerce, the Downtown Salmon Arm and community businesses of Salmon Arm who are supporting this fundraising campaign.
