RSS students dressed up for the Big Band Swing Dance Night

RSS presents band and choir concerts

Success at RSS, By Charlotte Beglinger & Hannah Brackenbury

It has been awhile since you’ve had an update from us students at RSS and there have been many events happening.

Track has recently begun and many students are hitting the books to get ready for midterm exams.

Ten students and two teachers recently went on a trip to Europe over spring break where they got to see many famous landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower. While they were visiting Paris, they also got to meet up with RSS student Zev Isert who is living in France on the Rotary Exchange Program.

The grade 8 Band students are getting ready to go on a trip to Edmonton. I recently went on a trip to Moscow, Idaho with the RSS Jazz Bands where we attended the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and were able to take many different workshops that allowed has to expand our skills and knowledge. A favorite workshop among us students was one called Circle Songs, which was spontaneous acapella singing.

On February 25 we were privileged to see Manhattan Transfer and Victor Wooten live in concert and the next night we were also privileged to see the Lionel Hampton Big Band play. On that night, they opened up the floor for people to go and swing dance to their music. Many memories were made on that trip and it has us looking forward to next year with great anticipation where the Senior Band will be travelling to New York City.

Our upcoming band concert is April 13, 2011 at RSS and the upcoming choir concert will be held April 17, 2011 at the United Church.
