SAS theatre

A cast of 24 students from Cathy Hay’s 11-12 acting class portray 61 characters in Josel and Karel Capek’s The Insect Comedy at 7:30 p.m., May 31 to June 3 in the theatre at Salmon Arm Secondary. Tickets at $8 for adults and $5 for children are available at the door. This is an audacious, original, and witty fantasy in which a philosophical vagrant falls asleep in a forest and observes a curiously interesting analogy between the lives of insects and those of humans.

Hidden treasures

Bernie Spring of Antiquarius Booksellers will give free book and ephemera appraisals at Hidden Gems Bookstore Friday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Art on display

SAGA Public Art Gallery presents The Crooked Trees of Alticane, paintings and photographs by Moose Jaw artist Ken Dalgarno. The opening reception takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, June 3 with live music and refreshments. Local expert Dr. Bill Remphrey will address the mystery of the Saskatchewan trees at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at the gallery. Admission is by donation.

Tour time

Singer/songwriter Aimie Laws performs at the Hideaway Pub at 8 p.m. June 4 with Part 2 of her Only Human Tour with Rock 4 MS, an effort to raise funds and awareness for the MS Society of Canada.

Telling tales

The newly formed Shuswap Storytelling Circle will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at the Salmon Arm branch of the Okanagan Regional Library. The circle is open to everyone interested in improving their storytelling skills. Drop in, admission is free.

Gallery jazz

Gallery Jazz Club features “Gadjology,” gypsy jazz with Willy Gaw, Jacob Verburg, Dick Owings and Bill Lockie Thursday, June 9 at the SAGA Public Art Gallery from 7 to 9 p.m.  Admission by donation.

Gospel

The Shuswap Gospel Music Group and Sunnybrae Bible Camp host the second annual Shuswap Country/Bluegrass Gospel Music Jamboree, with shows from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 11. On Sunday, June 12, Harry Rusk will lead a church service at 10:30 a.m. and another show will run from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation and proceeds will go towards building a horse barn and show ring.

SAGA concert

Steve Brockley performs in concert at SAGA Public Art Gallery at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 12. Admission $10.
