Speaking on happiness

The Canadian Mental Health Association presents Dr. Mark Holder and “The Science of Happiness” tonight, June 22 at 6:30 at the SAGA Public Art Gallery.

WOW

Wednesday on the Wharf features Cod Gone Wild at 6:45 p.m. at the gazebo in Marine Park.  Admission is by donation. Take your own blanket or lawn chair.

CD release party

Danielle Prince will release her first CD Gone with Tracy Jones at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 at SAGA Public Art Gallery. Admission is $5 per person or $20 for an admission package featuring a CD plus admission.

Coffee house music

The last Red River Jammers coffee house of the season will be June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Activity Centre. Contact Eldon at 250-832-7029 for more information.

Helping-hand dinner dance

A special dinner and dance fundraising evening to benefit Matthew Loring, who suffered spinal cord injuries, starts at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at 1680-70th Street SE, past Klahani Park. Performers include the Whiskey Danglers, Sasha Lewis and others. Tickets are $20 each at the Hideaway Liquor Store and Minos Greek House Restaurant. Free rides home and camper or tent space available.

Evening of magic

The Salmon Arm Elks host the 25th annual Family Variety Show, a fun-filled show featuring talented magician Gary Savard, at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Elks Hall at 3690 30th St. NE. Tickets are $10 each or $30 for a family.

Photo contest

The Okanagan Historical Society is offering $250 and a photo on the front cover of the 2011 edition of their Okanagan History Report to the winner of an Interaction with History photo contest. Entries must be submitted in JPEG format at 300 dpi. to dmackenzie@persona.ca by July 1. Entries should reflect the history of the Okanagan, Similkameen or Spallumcheen valleys and will be considered on the basis of attractiveness, composition and the degree to which the theme is met. Mash-up

Artists 15 to 25 years old may submit up to four mixed-media works for a fall exhibition at the SAGA Public Art Gallery. Deadline for intent to participate is Wednesday, June 29. For more information, call the gallery Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
