Jim Stubbs, trumpet, is the soloist in this concert and he will be playing the Haydn Trumpet concerto.

Stubbs spent about 25 years as associate member of the Metropolitan Opera. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was principal trumpet with the American Ballet Theatre, the American Composers Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Opera Orchestra of New York and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

These days he makes his home on Saltspring Island, where he founded the Saltspring Chamber Players and conducts the Bach on the Rock chorus and orchestra.

Some of the musicians he has brought to Saltspring have toured the world, or have played in Canadian orchestras in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver, as well as England and the United States.

Our December audiences will remember his wonderful solo work in the Messiah.

Also on these concerts are the Telemann Water Music Overture and Haydn’s London Symphony, no. 104.

Both concerts are generously sponsored by Allan Poole, realtor with Royal LePage, Coast Capital Realty, who works in the Sooke area.

Not to be missed! Ticket information at www.sookephil.ca, or call (250) 642-2849.

New St. Mary’s Church is located in Metchosin at 4125 Metchosin Road.

The Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra is a 60-member plus semi-professional orchestra, founded by Maestro Norman Nelson in 1997. With the subsequent introduction of the Chamber Players and the Philharmonic Chorus, the concert season currently consists of five programs (10 concerts) plus the popular Philly Fling at Ed Macgregor Park each summer.
