SAMC serves up murder and matchmaking

Agatha, Angela and Austen join forces to offer an intriguing mix of theatre at Trinity Western University this season

From murder to matchmaking, TWU’s 50th year promises an intriguing season of live theatre.

Audience favourites from Agatha Christie and Jane Austen will be highlights of School of Art Media + Culture (SAMC) Theatre’s 2012-13 season, along with student-directed shows and even some original creations.

Go Back For Murder starts things off with mystery and a touch of romance.  A scandalous murder case becomes an obsession for the strong and beautiful heroine, who believes her mother was framed in the mysterious death of her father and will stop at nothing to find the truth.

As it turns out, this smart young woman might just find love along the way. Adapted by Agatha Christie herself from the original hit novel, this classic whoddunit is directed by Lloyd Arnett and plays Oct. 23 to Nov. 3.

Directed by Jessie Award winner Angela Konrad, Picture This! runs Nov. 20 to Dec. 1.

Brimming with nostalgia and holiday warmth, this visual and musical journey is a SAMC original — devised collectively by an ensemble of senior students from SAMC Theatre’s BA and BFA programs.

In the New Year, SAMC’s popular New Generations festival returns with a variety of short plays running back-to-back.

Featuring the work of promising playwrights and directors, the one-week festival will light up the TWU campus Jan. 29 to Feb. 2.

Jane Austen’s beloved classic, Emma, will close the season with mischief and matchmaking.  You’ll want to book tickets early for this romantic favourite, playing March 12 to 23 under the direction of Aaron Caleb (who helmed last season’s sold-out Fiddler on the Roof).

Tickets will be available online this fall for the entire season.  To book yours or find more information, visit www.twu.ca/theatre or email theatre@twu.ca.
