Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Sarah McLachlan is wrapping up her North American tour with a date in Abbotsford.

The multi-faceted Canadian artist will be performing at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) on Sunday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The Sarah and Friends tour will offer fans an intimate evening with McLachlan as she performs her classic hits along with tunes from her latest CD, Laws of Illusion.

The album is her first release of new material in seven years and has already gone gold, selling more than 500,000 copies.

Through the evening, McLachlan will be taking time to answer questions from the audience.

In addition, McLachlan’s friends and band members Butterfly Boucher and Melissa McClelland will have their moment in the spotlight, each performing their own short sets.

According to Jason Blumenfeld, general manager of the AESC, hosting a show of this magnitude and genre helps highlight the diversity of the arena.

“It’s just another different style of event we have to offer to the region,” said Blumenfeld. “We’re excited to bring this artist to Abbotsford. And we’re excited the show is only a month away, so we get to enjoy it very soon.”

Since McLachlan’s recording career began in 1988, she has sold more than 40 million records worldwide. During that time, she has won eight Junos and three Grammys.

McLachlan also founded the touring festival called Lilith Fair, which brought together female acts and raised money for numerous charities.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 25 at 10 a.m.  Prices are $69.50 and $45.50, available at www.abbotsfordcentre.ca, the AESC box office or by phone at 1-866-977-AESC (2372).
